Barbara Gold, LCSW, LMFT, CSE is a licensed marriage and family therapist and clinical social worker in private practice working with individuals, couples, families and groups for almost forty years. She is also a certified sex therapist through the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
Her book, Loving Courageously: First Me, Then You, Now Us, is intended for lay audiences and contains much of her accumulated knowledge from her work with clients. Believing that there are many gaps in our learning of important information regarding self-care, self-love, and relationships, Barbara wrote this book to correct misinformation and fill in those gaps, – for those not in therapy, and as an adjunct for those who are.
This talk will focus on integrating sexuality into couples therapy by:
· Assessing the clinician’s own comfort level with their own sexuality as well as those of her clients
· Addressing communication about sexual intimacy with one’s partner and helping the couple understand and overcome any existing challenges to communication
· The therapist’s ability to discuss sexual material without discomfort, and the therapist’s tolerance for different sexual orientations, identities, and preferences
· Discussing couples’ dynamics around sexual relationships and understanding those dynamics and their origins
She will also take questions from the audience regarding challenging situations or clients.
